Innovation Process Design
How we innovated innovation.
Throughout the years, we saw many innovations fail. And while that's not necessarily a bad thing, we noticed that especially in complex stakeholder environments, even good ideas die early. Especially if that innovation threatens the comfortable system of the status quo. Regen Studio has set out to change that.

Taking elements from several innovation methodologies, and adding a few custom ingredients based on both research and experience, we developed an innovation process that is suited to assist innovations through such complex stakeholder environments and create impact through systemic change.

The process has proven itself useful in the areas of government, citizen-initiatives, coalitions and public-private partnerships. We believe that due to it's flexibility, the core process can be applied in any situation where success of an innovation depends on a multitude of stakeholders.

However, this does not mean we follow the exact same steps in any situation. Flexibility-by-design as a guiding principle for being innovative has helped us to design an innovation proces toolbox that can be completely shaped to your exact needs.

About our client.
Designing an innovation process suited for The Hague's smart city team
For the City of The Hague, we have designed a custom innovation process for the Expertise Centre Digital Innovation and Smart Cities.
Seeing that innovation for a local government can be challenging, we have set up a step-by-step process, whilst staying flexible. The process also incorporates connections to other processes from other departments, so that innovation's can land softly and have a better chance of surviving. The key difference between other innovation process methods is an extra step of validation that caters to all the requirements that an organization like a local government imposes on the successful deployment of innovations. We have also designed custom templates for workshops, planning and deliverables for reporting. The process is continuously evolving, incorporating changes in the organization and new insights from experiences that innovation officers from The Hague have had from the 10 different projects that have incorporated the process since 2023.
